The following review of Song Fwaa’s ‘Ligeti’s Goat’ album appeared in the Sydney Morning Herald last month:
From John Shand:
Not everyone can hear this music. First you must lift a certain Persian Rug (depicting grazing goats) to reveal a trapdoor. Opening this, you descend into an underground labyrinth in which every sound has an echo and every echo is a ghost of a note that may have been made by another instrument other than the one you think you heard. The eerie sonic world weaves composition and improvisation as thoroughly as it mingles and blurs the sounds of Martin Kay’s alto saxophone, David Reaston’s guitar, and Jamie Cameron’s drums. By turns dense, disquieting, playful, moving and hypnotic, it adds up to the finest recorded work by each member of this fiercely cohesive Sydney trio.
